High School Reunion

People often ask me where I get the ideas for the male characters in the erotic romances that I write.  Do I write from experience? Do I know these sexy men?  Well...the short answer is, "Kinda".

The story that most represents my life and experience is High School Reunion. This romance is loosely based on my courtship with my husband.  I knew him in high school, but I was too immature to pick up on the signals he was sending at the time when he gave me a romantic poem that he'd written about me on the last day of school. I was an idiot and put him off for a while but am so glad that he gave me a second chance later. The male protagonist in my story Highschool Reunion is a musician and writer, like my husband.  He's a Ginger with freckles and long legs that seem to go on forever.  The mystery in my erotic romance is whether he will show up at their reunion ten years after they graduated.  Is it too late for them?  Or will they get a second chance at love?

Here are some 5 Star Reviews for this Erotic Romance:

Five Stars: “I enjoyed reading High School Reunion. It’s that second chance you might have dreamed about. It’s about giving romance the chance that should have happened a long time ago. It’s about going out on a limb to try to get what you want, now that you have experience being an adult. Give this one a read if you've ever wondered, "What if?"
Five Stars: “There's always that one from your last that you wonder what if...
That basically is this story. Danielle has been wondering and attending her high school reunion for years with the hope of seeing Randy, The one that loved her but she let get away.

"The heat that comes from the short story was unexpected and hot.”

Only 99 cents.

Author Spotlight Mystqx Skye

Thanks for joining us on my blog today, Mystqx!

Here are some questions for you:

As a writer/lover of words, would you be able to describe yourself in just 2 words and why the chosen word.

Answer: Free Spirit. I love freedom in all its sense. The freedom to feel, act, write, do whatever my heart desires, free from the influence and negativity of other people - it is a wish I desire to fulfill everyday, to live and not just be alive.

This is your first published poetry book and I heard that there are some secrets in the pages. What does the title actually mean? How do you select the title of the poems?

Answer: Bared – Beneath a Myriad of Skies implies baring one’s soul. The cover image tells a lot about it too. It’s a woman consoling herself as she tries to bare her soul. The mandala tattooed on her skin is a reflection of her memories, hopes, dreams, passion, rage, frustration, longing, healing – her depths. The subtitle “Beneath A Myriad of Skies” denotes the different times and places that has witnessed my confessions. Some writings in my poetry book are writings I wrote 20 years ago and somewhen during that time, the skies are bluer than blue, or shadier than shades of gray. The images that goes with the writings are special places where I have been and where I have written some of the prose or poetry. The titles of my poems are either the essence of the poem or the message hidden in the writings.

So after finding out that there are actually secret messages written in between words and pages, why did you write it? Are you ready to tell us some of the secrets?

Answer: Some of the writings you will read in the book are from memories. I am looking for the “half-owner” of those memories – in the hopes that I will be found and in this lifetime.

What is your writing process like?

Answer: A word. I need a word to start with anything and then my writings flow from there. Usually I write things first on paper as I love the feel of paper and pen. Then a phrase composed with that word builds up the direction of where and how I will write. Music and food sets my mood before I start caressing my notes and pressing those letters on my keyboard.

What are common traps for aspiring writers?

Answer: Dipping your pen in so many inks. It can be overwhelming to write about so many things. You accumulate drafts after drafts and by the time you know it you are caught in a web of chaos.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

Answer: When I can’t find it in myself to connect with what I want to write – then I feel empty. Imagination works fine – I can write what I can imagine but it would be just descriptive and it takes too much energy to make it sound real and relatable. Words after words are written but the emotions doesn’t flow in it.

What is the hardest thing for you to write?

Answer: Digging deep into the recesses of one’s heart and mind may be sad, scary and at times emotionally draining but to write about is rewarding because somehow I could find a relief of heart.  I can write the story in shades or color coat it however I want, but the hardest thing to write is the naked truth of a certain matter because there is no absolute truth.

I know this is a question usually asked to writers, but in any case I am curious to know – how do you fight writers block?

Answer: I don’t fight it but I go with the flow. There is really no proper cure for this. but I find emptying your mind works like rebooting. Take a walk outside, go to a cafe, hang around and do nothing, take a long warm bath, activities that don't require serious thinking helps like magic. I really stop doing anything that has to do with writing and take a break to refresh my mind.

What kind of writer are you?

Answer: Free rein. Although I have a central plot, I write in the direction of where the flow of ideas take me.

What is the most important thing about a book in your opinion?

Answer: The choice of words that connects the book with the target reader. It should be able to capture the senses of the readers.

Where do you get your inspiration to write?

Answer:  Feeling, seeing, reading, hearing emotions in its purest state – raw emotion - inspires me to write, so I look for those in nature, in strangers, real life situations like watching kids. You can find the most honest reactions most of the time in kid’s faces.

Any projects in line?

Answer: Currently I am working on finishing 2 books. A non-fiction book about the negative stereotypes in society and the other one is a mystery romance novel.

All About Maggie May: My Interview on Smashwords

My Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?

When I was a child, I had trouble sleeping at bedtime, so to entertain myself, I created stories in my head. In high school, I took a Folklore and Mythology class and my teacher had us write ballads, myths, fables, and animal stories. That was the beginning of my experience as a writer. I went on to take creative writing classes in college along with several literature classes where I did a lot of reading, wrote a lot of essays, did a lot of comparing and contrasting, and ended up getting a master's degree in English.
When did you start writing erotica?

I started writing erotica later in my life. I am primarily a mystery writer and have published 14 mysteries under a different pen name. I have Smashwords to thank for helping me become an erotica writer since I read the erotic stories by other members of Smashwords Facebook groups and learned the words that erotic writers use to describe female and male genitalia in a sexy and arousing way. Before that, I could come up with titillating situations and characters for my erotic stories but didn't know how to write about body parts in a way that my readers wouldn't snicker at.
What is your latest published erotic romance?

My latest is entitled Hell on Wheels: A Sexy Western. It's told from the viewpoint of an 18-year-old girl who spent time and has lots of sexual experiences in the makeshift towns that the railroad built before the east coast and western trains met each other in Promontory Point Utah in the 1800s. I'm a train buff and love taking train trips. I'm fascinated with the building of the transcontinental railroad and have written two novels about it using another pen name. I wanted to try my hand in writing erotica starring the people who built the railroad and the prostitutes who travel with them. My erotic romance contains Male/Female/Male and Female/Male/Female threesomes. In it, I write about a compelling time in American history in a way that I hope my readers will find smokin' hot.
What are you working on now?

I'm going to be in an anthology in the summer called Down the Rabbit Hole that will include several of us writers reimaging the fairy tales we grew up reading. There will be Little Red Riding, Rapunzel, and Cinderella stories told like never before.
My group includes stories about Snow White. I was so excited about this anthology that I wrote and published a story that was meant to be included in it, so I had to write another one. The one I first wrote and published is called Naughty Snow White. In it, I write her story as an erotic romance. Naughty Snow White is anything but innocent. She steals her stepmother's diamond ring, hawks it, and then hitchhikes to San Francisco where she is taken in by seven gay dwarfs. As time goes on, she meets and falls in love with the grandson of a famous rock musician. To find out who that is, you'll have to read the erotic romance.
The Snow White Anthology will feature my new erotic story entitled Snow White and the Seven Firemen. In the erotic romance, Snow White's evil stepmother sets her house on fire with both Snow White and her father inside. Her father dies in the fire and she gets badly burned trying to save him. Saved by two firemen and now homeless, they invite her to live with them. She feels like she's died and gone to heaven when she sees how gorgeous her seven firemen roommates are. Which one of these handsome and sexy men will she choose to be her lover?

Author Spotlight: E. A. DeBoest

Tell us a little about your background. How did you start writing?

Well, I've been an avid reader my entire life, and I've been writing on and off since high school. I started reading erotic romance books after I had my first kid and I was introduced to a whole new experience of reading that I fell in love with. And then a few years ago, after my second kid was born, I decided to get back into writing again. I knew I had what it took to write great stories because there was a spark lit inside me that could only come out in writing.

I read and enjoyed the first book in the Construction of the Heart Series. Here's my review.

Lots of sex in this story that has likable characters, from the narrator to her new boyfriend, and her caring roommates. There’s a little mystery thrown to keep you wondering, “Who is the person following her in the black car?” I enjoyed the descriptions of her night out with her girlfriend, the meals she cooked, and the clothes she and her friends wore. I could see it all in my mind’s eye. All and all, a good story with excellent descriptions of smokin’ hot sex with her chocolate stallion. Lucky lady.

What made you decide to write interracial erotic romance stories?

Most of my books are interracial erotic romance stories, and that's because I'm extremely passionate about interracial love. It's my life. I'm married to a black man. We met 18 1/2 years ago and became friends, and then we started dating 16 1/2 years ago. And we just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. We have two beautiful children as a result of our love. But I've experienced some racism and hatred because of who I fell in love with, but it's just made me more passionate and knowledgeable about what I write. And it allows me to spread the message that love is love.
My interracial books are either about a black man and a white woman, a black woman and a white man, a biracial man and a white woman, or a biracial woman and a white man.

But I also write about Caucasian couples.
I love interracial couples, but I try to grab all readers of romance by not limiting myself to just that.
Construction of the Heart Series (3 books, Construction of the Heart, Sealing of the Heart, Expansion of the Heart) is interracial (a biracial man and a white woman). My 4th book, One Night: Two Strangers, is about a Caucasian couple. My 5th book, The Live In: Him Her and Her, is interracial (a married Caucasian couple and the wife's best friend, a beautiful black woman). And the book I'm working on right now, my 6th book, is about a Caucasian couple. My 7th book will be about a black man and a white woman. And my 8th book will be about a white man and a biracial woman.

But I don't dwell on skin colors, I bring their love out for one another. Love is love!
I write from my experiences in life, which I've had from dating both white men and black men, and because I've lived in a few different states and worked in several cities. I'm someone that definitely has lived her life. I've embraced the times when I've been single and lived my life to the absolute fullest. And I've embraced my relationships and taken the good and the bad from them. I also write from experiences that I've seen from friends and family. Plus, I write from experiences that come from reading and watching movies or television shows. Love in all forms is everywhere if you're open to it.

How have your fans reacted to your writing about sex? Have you ever had a stalker or men who’ve sent you pornography?

I haven't been stalked or received dick pics yet, but I get men and the occasional woman trying to flirt me a lot. I've gotten people messaging me their phone numbers and sometimes people ask me if I want to see their pics. I've also been asked if I will share my pics. I guess it comes with the genre of books that I write. But I just ignore it all and delete the comments and messages.

What are your plans for your next novel?

I'm currently writing my 6th book and it's my 3rd standalone book as my first 3 books are a series. I have the title but I'm not disclosing that information yet. I don't disclose the character names until I'm closer to publishing as well. But here's a peek at what this erotic romance novel has in store: 1) extremely troubled childhoods 2) lots of money, maybe bigger debts 3) a pimp 4) a proposition 5) 3 three weeks that change her life. I've just started writing this love story and I'm hoping to have it finished by the summer, hopefully in June.

Jane Austen's Unfinished Novel Sanditon

Are you looking forward to watching Sanditon, the PBS series based upon an unfinished novel by Jane Austen?  It starts tomorrow night.  Here's an erotic romance version of Jane's classic Sense and Sensibility that I hope you might like.

Sense and Sexuality: An Erotic Austin Variation

Here's a fun excerpt:

This scene takes place in the Hollywood Hills at a costume party given by Colin Firth, the actor famous for playing Mr. Darcy in the television adaption of Pride and Prejudice. The sisters had met him earlier when they were at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood for Wicked. I thought it might be fun to let the Dashwood sisters role play and lose their inhibitions at the party, so I hope you'll enjoy:

As the date for the masquerade party approaches, Elinor and Marianne have been busy planning their costumes.  Neither wants the other to know what she will wear until the night of the party.  When that night comes, they can’t wait to see each other’s reactions to their outfits. Mrs. Dashwood and Margaret sit in the living room, eagerly waiting for “the big reveal”.

At last, Marianne comes out of her bedroom. She is dressed like Scarlett O’Hara—hoop skirt and all. She waves her fan and says, “Fiddle-dee-dee.  It’s so hot in here, I’m positively wilting.  Where ever is that sister of mine?”

Their sister Margaret lets out a gleeful scream and says, “Oh, Marianne.  That’s such a perfect costume for you.  You’re just like Scarlett.”

"Am I?"

She is answered by the crack of a whip.  The three of them look at each other in confusion and fear. Margaret sees Elinor and says, “Oh My God!  Elinor is dressed like Cat Woman!”

Elinor says, “Cat Woman, Halle-Berry-style.”  She struts into the room clothed in low-hung black leather pants connected to a bikini top that crisscrosses over her stomach and back.  She also sports black leather boots and gloves that have claws on the fingertips.  A black mask with cat ears completes her ensemble.  She proclaims, “I am Cat Woman.  Hear me roar.”

Marianne and Margaret gush over her outfit, but Mrs. Dashwood has reservations.

She tells Elinor, “I’ve seen people really lose their inhibitions when they go to costume parties.  I was at one where a woman dressed as a pregnant girl scout spent the whole night sitting on the laps of practically every man in the room.”

Margaret says, “Oh, a pregnant Girl Scout?  That’s a good one!”

Her mother interrupts and tells Elinor, “Seriously, I hope you don’t lose your inhibitions at the party and do something you'll regret later.”

Marianne can’t stop laughing at the way Elinor is dressed.  Once she catches her breath, she tells her “Elinor, I never knew you had a dark side!”

She answers, “Who knows what surprises tonight may hold.”

Margaret tells her, “You really do look hot, Elinor.  You should wear leather more often.”

Everyone laughs, but her mother tells her, “Elinor, you’d better behave yourself tonight and you need to keep an eye on your little sister.”

“I promise, Mamma,” she answers.

Elinor tells Marianne, “Come on, Miss Scarlett.  Let’s go party.”

Their mother shouts, “Elinor!  You’d better take a sweater.  You’re going to freeze in that outfit!”

She looks back at her mother and hisses.

As they are walking out the door, Marianne whispers, “Elinor! I can’t believe you just did that!” Both laugh. “This really is a whole other side of you.  You’re usually so prissy and judgmental.”

“Am I? Is that how you see me?”

“Yes. Sometimes.”

“Well then, I promise I’ll work on that,” she reassures her sister. Once in the car, she puts on a cd by Heart and turns the volume up when the song Barracuda by Heart comes on. Both sisters sing along as Elinor heads for the party.

When they arrive at their destination, Marianne asks, “Will you be using your whip tonight?”

“Maybe.”

“Oh, boy.  This is going to be fun,” Marianne answers, clapping her hands.

Once they arrive at the party, they get out of the car and walk to the door.

Before ringing the doorbell, Elinor asks, “Are you ready to go inside?”

"I think so," she answers, feeling a bit scared of what lies beyond the door.

"Don't worry.  If it gets too freaky, tell me and we'll leave."

With a sense of adventure, Marianne says, "Okay.  Let's do this thang!"

"I like your spirit.  Let's go see Mr. Darcy."

They get out of the car and hear laughter and loud music.  The sisters walk up the stone steps and knock on the door.  A woman who is completely naked except for an owl mask and a dog collar around her neck answers. She is dragging a leash, like a dog who has run away from its master. Seeing how Elinor is dressed, she flirts with her, saying, “Oh, Cat Woman. You look positively yummy.  You may hold my leash.”

Elinor looks at her sister hoping for encouragement, but Marianne shrugs her shoulders as if to say, “The ball’s in your court, sis.”

She takes the proffered leash and leads "owl lady" inside. They wander out to the pool where a band is playing songs from the 80s. Some people have shed their masks and clothes and are skinny-dipping.  In the hot tub, a naked woman sits on top of a man with her breasts in his face while he plays with them.

Both girls are shocked by the nudity; yet can’t look away.  They’re glad when the band takes a break and they can talk to each other.

Marianne says, “This party is really wild.  Mamma would be so mad at us for coming here!”

"I know," Elinor answers.  Both are relieved when they see the British actor, Colin Firth, approach.

He walks over to Elinor and says, "Wow! What a brilliant costume.  You look fantastic!"

Elinor blushes and, feeling self-conscious, asks, "Do you think I went too far?  Do I look ridiculous dressed as Cat Woman?"

He clears his throat and answers, "That the furthest thing from the truth."

"What do you mean?"

"You make a perfect Cat Woman." He slowly checks out her body from head to toe, and then repeats, "Wow!"

Feeling slightly self-conscious, she points to Marianne and asks, "What do you think of her costume?"

He notices her for the first time and tells her, "You make a cute Scarlett."

She fans herself and answers, "Why...thank you kindly, Sir." Looking at his ruffled shirt and wet hair, she tells him, "I like your ruffled shirt.  After a few beats, she asks, "Why is your hair all wet?"

"Johny Depp threw me in the pool."

She answers, "Oh my God!  Is he here, too?  I have a huge crush on him! She looks around and then asks, "Do you know where he is?"

"I lost track."

"Oh...I think I'll go see where he is!" she tells him and hurries off.

Adult Fairy Tale--Naughty Snow White

A fairy tale for adults. In this fun erotic romance, Snow White is far from innocent.  She steals her evil step-mother’s diamond ring, hawks it, and runs away to San Francisco where she meets her Prince Charming, who just happens to be the grandson of a famous San Franciscan rock guitarist. Her evil step-mother is determined to seek revenge and poisons her with an apple pie. Will Snow White survive? Will the step-mother be punished for what she's done?
Only 99 cents. For Readers 18+

Five Star Review:

In this delightful adult fairy tale, Snow White is reimagined for a modern world. She runs away to San Francisco and is taken in by seven gay guys, all of whom are Deadheads. Nicely done, not porn by any means, but a quite romantically done version of the classic fairy tale. Well written, extra stars from me for working in the Dead lyrics and the casting of Prince Charming!

MY REVIEW:

When I first heard about this anthology, I was very excited because I love New Orleans and have been there so many times that I consider it my second home.  Many of these authors are new to me, so I was eager to read what they had to say about romance in the Big Easy.

What a diversity of stories and situations.  A Bite and A Mark: A Story from the Grid is about a young man who wakes up finding himself handcuffed to a vegetarian vampire who also has no idea how they got there.

Her Revenge is about how a wife gets back at her husband for cheating on her; Enemy Mine stars a Federal Cavalry Officer in occupied New Orleans who comes to the rescue of a young southern virgin, who  because of poverty, decides to become a prostitute; Serendipity is a charming story about a widow who literally takes a bullet for a powerful man she's never met before; and Blame It on the Spring Fling is a fun story about a young woman who makes love potions and fears that her old love, a vampire, only has feelings for her (and become her "Love Zombie") because he's accidentally cut himself on broken bottles of her concoctions.

The two stories that resonated with me the most were The French Quarter Queen and Redemption in New Orleans.  Both stories were so evocative of the city that I felt I was right there with them. I love stories about lovers getting a second chance and the characters in these stories are complicated and relatable.  One of the stories ends in a shocking way (I won't tell you which one).

If you like happily-ever-afters and marriage proposals, you'll enjoy these stories. They're definitely worth a read.
