Happy New Year's Eve

Would you like to go to a masquerade party?

If so, check out this excerpt from my book:
The Killing Moon: An Erotic Vampire Romance

I’m surprised when I see Candy of all people walk into the restaurant.  She’s on the arm of a well-dressed man who looks twice her age.  Maybe she’s found herself a sugar daddy.  They sit across the room from me, and I enjoy watching her in action as she works on the guy.  She’s full of giggles and flirtation and is really in her element.  John Thomas sees her and walks to her table.  He kisses her hand and greets her new friend.  I wonder how well they know each other.

Soon, he’s back to my table with a half-bottle of champagne.

I ask him, “Do you know Candy?”

“Yes.  I’ve seen her at parties.”

“My friends sent her to my house as a present for my 21st birthday.”

“Really?” he seems very interested.  “How’d it go?”

“It was fun.”

“Really?” he asks, showing even more interest.  “I wish I had more time to talk, but the restaurant is filling up.  I hope you come again.”

“I shall.”

He stands and takes my hand, kissing it before leaving.

The server asks for my order, and I tell her, “I’ll have the Fish Stew Provencal.”

“Good choice,” she says and goes off to the kitchen to inform the chef.

After she leaves, I glance over at Candy and find her looking back at me.  She waves and I wave back.  I haven’t thought of her for a long time.  Suddenly, I miss her company.  Too bad she makes me pay every time we have sex.  She and her sugar daddy leave, and I eat my delicious meal all by myself.  I watch as John Thomas moves from table to table, making each guest feel special.  He sure knows how to show a girl a good time.  Too bad he can’t sit and talk to me.  As I look around and see friends and lovers laughing at their tables, I feel so lonely. I finish my meal and stand to leave, looking for John Thomas to thank him.  I see him coming out of the kitchen with a bottle of wine and I walk over to him.  “Once again, thank you so much.  I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.”

He holds and kisses my hand and says, “Always a pleasure to see you.  Please come again.”

“I shall,” I tell him and return home to my lonely empty house.

When I arrive back home, my phone rings.  It’s Candy calling.

“Renee, it was good to see you again.”

“Always a pleasure to see you, Candy.”

“I’m glad you feel that way.  I’m calling to invite you to a party.”

“What kind of party?”

“A masquerade party.  Wouldn’t that be fun?”

“Do I have to pay anything to go?”

“No.  You’ll be my guest.  I was told I could bring a friend.  And I choose you.”

“Sounds fun.  Where will it be?”

“At the house of the guy who owns YUM restaurant.”

“John Thomas?”

“Yes.”

“Wow!” I answer.  This just gets even more exciting.

She asks, “So, what’s your answer?  Yes or no?”

“Yes.  It’ll be fun.  I love masquerade parties.”
